II — Statement
The method
Written for the exhibition by the gallery, August 2026.
The tide keeps a better record
than we do.

Okonkwo works at the hour when the water has gone out and the sky has not yet decided what it is. Her surfaces are built the way a beach is built — laid down, scoured, laid down again — until ash holds the light the way wet sand does.
Low Tide, No Horizon gathers two years of that method: paintings weighted with salt and ash, a sculpture the length of a small boat, and a ledger of forty-eight salvaged tiles, one for each day she walked the same three hundred metres of shoreline.
The exhibition asks a plain question. When the horizon is taken away — by haze, by scale, by standing too close — what is left to steer by?
